A Victorian Journey workshop in action

What was it like for children living in Victorian Britain?

The year is 1887 and you and your children will be asked to take the role of inmates of a local workhouse that has been closed due to an outbreak of scarlet fever. You are being transferred to another workhouse accompanied by the Workhouse Mistress.

This is a living history day.

Your day may include

  • Travel on the 'new' steam train
  • A Victorian School lesson
  • A local policeman giving an interactive talk on crime and punishment
  • A lifestyle comparison between the 'gentry and a gentleman of the road.'
  • A cold workhouse dinner

Plus some or all

  • Singing lesson
  • Drill
  • Music Hall

The day begins at Sheringham Station at 10am and finishes at Holt Railway Institute at 2pm. You will travel on the 10.30 steam train from Sheringham to Holt.

Free preliminary visit by a member of staff recommended.
