Discover rocks by handling and observing to see how they are constructed and how this can be used to give a simple classification of rocks. Volcanic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks are introduced as well as those formed by biological activity.

Discover the contents of soil and how simple tests can be used to classify them. This is very much a hands on activity. Investigate how different soils can differ in pH and what this means for plant growth.
