Poppy Line Education is based in the Railway Institute at Holt Railway Station on the North Norfolk Railway
Due to the large number of children visiting us for schools workshops we needed to build an education centre for the railway. With our funding strictly limited, we sourced two old temporary classrooms, brought them to Holt Station and converted them to the Railway Institute. The Institute was officially opened by Paul Atterbury (BBC Antique Roadshow) in 2007.
The original Railway Institute for this line was in Melton Constable and was built by William Marriott. William Marriott built the Poppy Line and ran it for 40 years. He founded the Institute so that his staff could both further their education and run social events in their railway town.
One day we hope to have an authentic replica of the type of building used but meanwhile we have put the present Institute to a multitude of uses as you will see from these pictures.
